This is a very attractive 19th Century antique portrait of a cavalry officer in a gilt frame.
This portrait is of excellent quality and a good size. The sitter in the portrait is a 19th Century cavalry officer (some information below).
The condition of the portrait is excellent. There is some minor damage to the frame, but nothing serious or immediately noticeable. This can be seen in photos.
Angelo - Lieutenant-Colonel John - 3rd Bengal Light Cavalry - died 29th March 1860.
Son of Anthony and Elizabeth Angelo. (His father was originally Anthony Angelo Malevolti Tresamondo, of Sienna, Italy). Married Louisa Neate in 1818. Served 3rd Mahratta war 1817, Bhurtpore 1826 (medal and bar), Ghuzni 1839 (medal), Sutlej 1845 (medal and 2 bars). His grandfather was the famous fencing master and feared duellist in Italy. Grave at Dehra Dun - 'Sacred to the memory of Lt. Col. John Angelo Bengal Establishment late 3rd Light Cavalry. Born in London 26th September 1792. Died at Deyrah 29th March 1860 in his 68th year.'
